Portmanteau
2014Portmanteau is a boxed edition of 10 prints, each with two simultaneous compositions of brushstrokes: a lithographed light-grey arrangement and a blind embossed one. The two hold equal visual weight on the page, sometimes complimenting each other and at other times competing for the viewer’s attention. The edition is called Portmanteau for the fact that it brings two distinct elements together to form a third, as well as for the allusion to valises (portable prints) and overcoats (coats of paint describing a surface).
